Suffolk Genetic Recovery Program

U.S.S.A Board Adopts Suffolk Genetic Recovery Program

The United Suffolk Board in its retreat during the spring of 2015 proposed a goal of establishing a Suffolk genetic recovery program under the breed improvement plan.  It became apparent to the Board that a number of Suffolk breeders had not registered their Suffolks for many years.  These sheep were not eligible for the percentage registration program even though they were of Suffolk origins.  The Board decided to explore the ramifications of allowing these breeders to register their sheep by appointing a committee to further investigate the issue.  The Board adopted a Suffolk genetic recovery proposal after much research and numerous meetings.  The parameters of the program are as follows.

Eligibility for Suffolk GAP registrations

For Sale: 70 bred Suffolk Ewes, Suffolk Rams

For Sale:  70 bred Suffolk ewes, Suffolk rams

Russell Sheep Co. has been raising productive, practical Suffolk Sheep for over 40 years.  The time has come (due to health and time issues) to significantly reduce the size of our flock.  When we turned in the rams this fall, we planned to keep this flock going, however we never know what life has in store and we’ve made the hard decision to let most of our flock go to new homes.  We have 70 bred ewes for sale, from yearlings to six years of age, with strong production records and bred for carcass quality and structural correctness. We also have 7 rams, from 10 months to 4 years of age for sale.  All of the sheep have NSIP ID’s, however we were not in the program this year.  Records, papers, and lots of fond memories go with these sheep.  Contact us through [ ]
