The Board of Directors of the United Suffolk Sheep Association wishes to extend gratitude to the membership for your participation in the recent vote on how animals should be presented at the National Suffolk Show and National Suffolk Sale. In recent history, there has been very few votes in the USSA that has seen this level of turnout. The membership vote related to the presentation of animals at the association sanctioned events has been counted and is for there to be no change; 77 in favor of the presentation change and 83 in favor of no change.
We thought it was important for our members to participate in the decision-making process. The Board was clear when this was put to the vote of the membership that we would abide by the wishes of the membership, and you have spoken.
Now that this vote is in the rear-view mirror, the [ … ]

USSA Committee Application
A few years ago, the USSA invited non-board members to participate in our various committees. This has been extremely valuable in terms of getting broader input on association activities as well as surfacing potential new future board members. Committees meet via Zoom, the frequency dependent on how active each committee wants or needs to be. One challenge that we have encountered is that some committees became so large it was difficult for the chair to manage, and to ensure all committee members were able to share their opinions and ideas, and for the committee to reach consensus. To keep all of our committees at a manageable size, we have created this short application. An application is not an automatic appointment. The president will appoint committee members with a goal is to be inclusive of all types of Suffolks and a diversity of opinions. Applications are to be submitted [ … ]
The United Suffolk Sheep Association board of directors (including both the outgoing and incoming members of the board who were able to participate) came together in Des Moines on October 28, 29, and 30th for an internal strategic planning session.
As the board reviewed the discussion topics that had been submitted ahead of time by the meeting participants and past five association presidents, our internal SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats) analysis, the membership needs assessment that was conducted in 2020, the notes and take-aways from the 2016 strategic planning session, and the 2013 membership survey, we approached the meeting with the overarching thought processes of:
What needs to be done to keep the USSA financially viable, and
What can we do to address the needs and wishes of our membership
The following are the committees for the coming year, and their assignments as well as respective committee chairs.

Suffolk breeders are more than ever reporting the receipt of spam email from the USSA, it’s directors and/or staff. These emails are claiming they are from the Suffolk Association, directors or staff but are not actually from the association anyone affiliated with the organizations. If you received an email asking to send gift cards, money or that send you to a website that looks suspicious and may ask for a password, delete the email. Do not click on the link or open a file. Another red flag is if the email has bad grammar or common words that are misspelled.
One of the easiest ways to check to see if it is a spam email is by looking at what the actual email address is of the sender, not just the printed name.
