Director Election -Intent to Run Aug. 1

USSA DIRECTOR ELECTION
Intent to run submission deadline is August 1!
Director Openings:
District 1 – one 3-year term
District 2 – one 3-year term
District 3 – one 3-year term
District 4 – one 3-year term and one 2-year term

  1. If you or a USSA member you know would like to be a candidate for the upcoming USSA Directors elections, here’s a brief overview of your next steps:Submit a letter of intent declaring that you are willing to be a candidate for the USSA Board of Directors Election. Letters of intent are due in the USSA Office by August 1, 2021. The letter must be faxed, emailed or mailed to the USSA Office, PO Box 121, Holland, IA 50642. Letters of intent submitted through mail must be postmarked by the deadline date. Phone calls are not acceptable.
  2. Within one week of the deadline, candidates must submit a brief personal bio as well as a photo to the USSA Office. The personal bio should be approximately one-half of an 8 ½ x 11 page. The content of candidate bios should discuss the candidate’s qualifications, reasons they feel they are a good director candidate and any thoughts/ideas they may have on improving the association and Suffolk breed. Candidates who do not submit a personal bio and photo will only have their name listed on the election ballot.

Each Jr. Member can enter up to 3 photos.

UJSSA Intern/Director Applications
UJSSA members interested in serving the Junior Association for a two-year term as a volunteer director must apply for the position by completing a Director Application. Juniors who have not served as a UJSSA Director must apply to be a UJSSA Director Intern, a one year term, before being eligible to be a Director. Applications will be reviewed, and applicants will be notified on the interview process. New director terms begin at the July meeting and conclude with the National Junior Suffolk show the following year.
UJSSA officers and directors are expected to attend the National Junior Suffolk Show, assist with fundraising for the junior show and junior promotional projects, participate in UJSSA meetings and promote interest in the Suffolk breed and membership in UJSSA through various promotional and educational activities.
UJSSA officers are expected to participate in all UJSSA Board conference calls. If a Director is absent for two consecutive meetings or conference calls they will be relieved of their position on the board.

Suffolk Ambassador/Queen
The primary responsibilities of the National Suffolk Ambassador and/or National Suffolk Queen would be to represent the breed at Shows and Sales. The contest will be held at the National Junior Suffolk Show each year. Applicants will be interviewed by a committee of three. The winner will serve a one year term from the current National Junior Suffolk Show to next National Junior Suffolk Show.
The United Suffolk Sheep Association has set aside $1,000 to assist in the financing of expenses for the winners. Winners are required to turn in receipts for the $1,000.

Qualifications:
The National Suffolk Ambassador contest is open to any junior member between the ages of 16 and 21, must be a member and in good standing with the United Junior Suffolk Sheep Association.
Applicants should be willing to attend: National Junior Suffolk Show, Midwest Stud Ram Sale, and North American International Livestock Expositions Junior & Open Suffolk Shows.
The National Suffolk Queen contest is open to females between the ages of 16 and 21, must be a member and in good standing with the United Junior Suffolk Sheep Association.
